AFCC Women Came Prepared for a Fight

The afternoon sun was out and in full force during the contest between the Women in Blue and Sunflower State. AFCC was looking to avenge their previous 5-0 loss on the road against Sunflower. The team fought hard from start to finish, creating several chances on counterattacks and really leaning on their speed quick passes. Unfortunately, they were not able to find the back of the net while Sunflower was able to get all three points with a 0-3 victory.

However, it has to be noted that there were a few questionable calls that led to penalties. What looked like a heads up tackle by William Woods University senior defender Chloe Overkamp turned into the second goal for Sunflower late in the second half. Sunflower would tack on another goal from the penalty spot to secure all three points.

Another match and, unfortunately, another loss for the Women in Blue. However, Coach Boardsen noticed several bright spots in how the team fought to the end and created some good chances. WPSL is a top women’s league with a lot of top-level college talent. Watching the game on Saturday, I can tell the AFCC is building a team ready for the challenge.
