A Message from Zach Fisher, club President
THANK YOU
From a Twitter DM that led to the start of ACCin early 2020 to now, has been one heck of a journey. To the players, the coaches, the fans, I thank you for the patience, encouragement and energy as you helped build this with me. There is no great “how to build a lower league soccer club in Missouri” book I could pull off a shelf to lean on. Instead I had a great soccer community (shout out MWPL clubs for the assist), and some great local community members to help bring a club home to Columbia.
Most importantly thank you to my loving wife that was ok with me spending way to many nights at soccer instead of at home.
This is not the end of AFCC. Unlike so many lower league clubs, AFCC will continue. I am excited to see where the new leadership takes the club!
New energy, new ideas and I will be sure to make as many games as I can.Just don’t mind the Fisher boys tagging along, I will finally get to actually watch a game with them for the first time ever! Lastly, to all of those fans who had to hear the vuvuzelas at games, I’m still not sorry for buying those.
What is the point of soccer if it isn’t fun?Thank you everyone. Come On You Blues!
A Message from Kurtis Boardsen, club Vice-President
What started with a Facebook Message about being interested in coaching this “team” turned into numerous years of hard work, scouting, traveling, coaching, and working with some of the best people and players I’ve been fortunate enough to be around
After a second place finish in Year 1 with the Men in the Midwest Premier League, I had the amazing opportunity to be the Head Coach of Year 1 for the AFCC Women in the WPSL. Fol-owing that year, one of my prouder moments was taking point on organizing the merger between the AFC Columbia and Missour Reign Women’s teams. Watching the growth of both sides has been nothing short of incredible. Knowing I had a hand in it still feels like a dream. The transition off the AFC sideline to the Vice President / General Manager role was tough, but I knew that both sides were in great hands. It opened up new doors for the club to grow, both on and off the field.
As the Club has grown and changed, so have I. With the number of changes over the last year, it became clearer to me that it was time again to pass the torch on my roles with the Club.AFC Columbia will continue to grow and thrive. After all, I can’t stop helping expand it. (Did you know we have 3 Youth Teams now? Yeah, I helped form those too!) However, with growth that is needed we also need those with fresh ideas and boots on the ground.
It’s not goodbye. Because when you bleed Blue for the Club, you bleed Blue forever.
Onward, Forward! AFCC ALWAYS!.
Club Statement
We will miss the incredible leadership, creativity, kindness, and drive both Zach and Kurtis brought to the club. This was displayed every day, from the operations work fans may not have seen behind the scenes to late night board meetings, prep work done hours before games started, collaboration with players and staff during and after games, and in many other ways.
AFC Columbia looks forward to seeing them at future gamedays when they are available to attend. Stay tuned for exciting future updates!
