AFC Columbia Welcomes Kurtis Boardsen

COLUMBIA, Mo. — AFC Columbia is pleased to announce the hiring of Kurtis Boardsen as the first manager in club history. Boardsen boasts an impressive CV and looks to lead AFCC into the future.

“I was excited to join AFC Columbia to continue coaching a game I love while providing a newly established outlet for older players in the Columbia area to continue their playing careers,” Boardsen said. “We have a number of great clubs for youth players, but nothing for college age and older. AFCC fills that void and I could not be more excited to be a part of the club.”

Boardsen has coached at numerous colleges and high schools in the Columbia area, notably at Stephens College. He has also coached at Sporting Columbia, MLS club Sporting Kansas City’s affiliate member in the area.

“I’m most excited for the opportunity to allow our players to showcase their talents in our region and making professional connections to assist in potentially moving players from our club to larger clubs,” Boardsen said. “I’ve always been excited to provide opportunities to players and AFCC will be a wonderful jump off point for many players.”

The club is excited about the future under Boardsen and is confident that he is the right man for the job.

““Kurtis brings a wealth of knowledge of local soccer and will make an instant impact for AFCC,” club president Zach Fisher said. “As we build out our rosters, his credibility with local coaches will go a long way in identifying the kind of players we want representing not only AFCC, but the city of Columbia on the regional level for the first time.”

Boardsen fills an important role and his hiring marks a major milestone in the history of the club.

“I’m excited to have Kurtis on board and I’m sure he’ll hit the ground running this fall,” FIsher said. “The club expects to be competitive year one and Kurtis is the perfect person at the perfect time to make this happen”
